The Role

Flock is looking to add a Sr. Android Application Engineer for Headless Devices to our Device software team. No UI components here! We run on headless custom Android devices. Our Engineering team is made up of driven people who are responsible for all of the code running on a variety of devices Flock deploys in the real world. They enable the whole experience by writing applications that reliably capture, process, and upload data for years at a time without needing human interaction to keep them running.

How you'll make an impact:

Take responsibility for a feature or module and deliver with high quality.
Be responsible for a certain amount of QA/quality of your work
Write automatable code.
Document work, test cases, and interact with program, product, QA, and other engineers.
Estimate of work within reasonable accuracy and ability to communicate adjustments.
Assist in supporting issues reported in the field.
For senior candidates:
- Be able to lead a project or work with other team members.
- Work with product and TPMs to architect, break down work, and drive large features to completion.
- Be able to negotiate features and schedules
- Identify and be a proponent of new features that will be beneficial to Flock.
- Identify deficiencies in product, processes, and improve upon them.
- Mentor other engineers.
- Give tech talks.

We're looking for people who:

Have skills around camera, video, gstreamer, ffmpeg, image processing. We are open to proven candidates to learn these areas.
Possess Kotlin programming skills or strong java skills with the ability to learn kotlin and get up to speed quickly.
Experience with NDK and C/C++.
Are very knowledgeable on Android application development, methodologies, design patterns.
Have the ability to read through a large existing codebase and adapt quickly.
Have worked custom Android devices or ability to.
Have worked on other mobile application frameworks.
Possess strong debugging skills and debugging on custom Android HW.
Have experience with Architecture, design, documentation.
Skilled in JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Gerrit, Git/GitHub.
