About the Role:
We are looking for a Developer Experience Engineer passionate about leveraging AI and automation to enhance engineering productivity. You’ll continuously explore innovative ways to streamline workflows, reduce friction, and ensure developers spend their time on meaningful, impactful tasks. Your mission is to use technology to maximize efficiency, aligning directly with Laurel’s core mission to sanctify time.

Core Duties:

  • Develop & Automate: Design, build, implement and maintain AI-driven tooling and automation solutions to significantly enhance developer productivity.

  • Collaborate: Partner closely with engineers and product teams to identify bottlenecks and automate repetitive tasks, maximizing effective use of engineers' time.

  • Innovate & Educate: Proactively research emerging technologies, particularly AI-driven tools, to introduce innovative solutions that enhance engineering workflows and developer effectiveness.

  • Measure & Improve: Continuously measure and analyze the impact of automation and tooling on productivity, iterating based on actionable insights.

  • Document & Communicate: Produce clear, insightful documentation and training resources to facilitate widespread adoption of tools and automated processes.

Teammates:
This role reports to the Infrastructure and Security Engineering Manager and collaborates closely with the broader engineering teams.

Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience: 4+ years in software engineering, with significant experience focused on developer tooling, AI-driven automation, or platform engineering.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in Typescript.

    • Comfortable with Python and Go.

    • Demonstrated experience implementing automation and AI solutions.

    • Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Cursor, MCP, ChatGPT.

    • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure).

    • Understanding of the current AI landscape and how to work with it.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, particularly in integrating complex systems.

  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex solutions and foster team-wide adoption.

  • Customer Mindset: Deep empathy for developers, consistently focused on understanding their needs and improving their productivity.

Flexibility and Logistics

  • Location: This role will be hybrid based in our New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA or San Francisco, CA office, 3 days per week; we may consider exceptionally qualified candidates who are remote in the United States and are willing to travel occasionally to our offices.

  • Compensation: Competitive salary, generous equity, comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage with covered premiums, 401(k), additional benefits including wellness/commuter/FSA stipends. For candidates based in San Francisco or New York, NY the compensation range for this role is $160,000-$212,000 USD. Final compensation amounts will be determined based on several factors including candidate experience, qualifications and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed.
