About the Role
We’re seeking an exceptional Payroll Specialist to join our Opendoor’s Payroll team to meet and exceed the needs of our employees as our business rapidly grows in existing markets and scales to new markets.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll. Perform payroll review functions as needed. Audit, research and resolve payroll queries & discrepancies.
- Process payroll for employees in India on a monthly payroll cycle.
- Perform audits of employee records to ensure tax compliance
- Ensure new employees are onboarded and payroll is set up correctly and effectively
- Prepare and conduct training for new employees and as needed for new systems or additional features within ADP, such as time and attendance
- Design and create ad-hoc reports in the Workday and ADP systems as needed to facilitate the processing and audit of payroll
- Stay up-to-date with ADP & Workday releases and updates
- Collaborate effectively with ADP Team
- Audit and balance year end wages and to ensure accuracy before finalizing year end filing.
- Collaborate with other team members and other departments to identify and drive process improvements.
- Provide excellent customer service to our employees and answer payroll related questions timely.
- Ensure compliance with local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices.
- Maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy of Payroll/HR files, records, and documentation.
- Perform other duties and projects as needed
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of payroll to remain in compliance with our SOX procedures and controls.
We’re looking for teammates who bring:
- 5+ years of relevant payroll experience.
- Must have experience processing payroll for employees located in India
- Proficient in India Statutory Regulations on Direct Taxation, EPF, Pension, RSU, ESPP/ESOP, Form-16
- Effective Vendor Management skills (for working with ADP)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Gmail, Google Suite preferred (sheets, forms and docs)
- Workday HCM, ADP Payroll system knowledge preferred
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Open to change and willing to learn new skills
- Ability to multi-task and work in multiple systems

About the Role:
We’re seeking an exceptional Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team! The Accountant will support the development and growth of the Finance Center of Excellence that we are establishing in our Chennai office as well as support the financial reporting and accounting operations of our US entities.
As an Opendoor Accountant you will:
- Assist with the accounting operations of our US-based subsidiaries, including financial reporting and statutory filings.
- Prepare month-end journal entries in NetSuite in accordance with GAAP for the following areas:
- Acquisitions of homes
- Prepaid property expenses
- Accrual of expenses associated with Opendoor’s inventory
- Inter company transactions
- Assist with validating cut-off of homes purchased in a specific month by partnering with operations to obtain documents confirming ownership transfer dates.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and make sure that any outstanding items are investigated and subsequently cleared.
- Prepare monthly fluctuation explanations and present them in our close meeting.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies by coordinating with Title Agencies.
We’re looking for teammates who have:
- Professional qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar subject matter with an understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Minimum of 3+ years of Accounting experience
- Flexible mindset with the ability to thrive in a changing environment where continual process improvement is expected
- Effective remote worker with the ability to meet deadlines and independently manage time.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
- High bar for attention to detail, organization, process design, documentation, and improvement.
- Team player with the ability to work in a collaborative environment, including with teammates in other locations and external Title Companies.
- Demonstrated ability for picking up new technologies quickly and comfortably
- Strong Excel skills
Bonus Points for:
- NetSuite or SQL experience
- Certification or candidate on a path to become a CA, CMA / MBA
- Experience working in a SOX control environment
- Real Estate or Property accounting experience
