About the Role:
Papa is seeking senior full stack engineers to join our international engineering team. We are a remote first workplace with employees primarily based in the US. . You'll join a fast-paced team that has the personal freedom and safety to execute with the directive: "Do what's best for the company". You will play a central role in creating and maintaining beautiful designs and user experiences in our web apps. You will work across our front end (React, Javascript, HTML, CSS) and our backend (Elixir/Phoenix, GraphQL) to architect and implement features to our business growth. We are data-driven and use metrics and logs to determine the impact and what parts need to scale first. Excellent communication skills are required because we are all fully-remote. We’re looking for engineers with experience building scalable and resilient critical path platform services. You should be customer-focused, data-driven, and passionate about collaborating with your teammates and peers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Building products and experiences for our Papa Pals and Members
  • Being a senior technical leader and critical hire on the team and will help others around you grow as developers and be successful
  • Taking the lead on directing and implementing solutions to complex, unscoped problems
  • Collaborating with our cross-functional teams and business partners throughout the technical organization
  • Obsess over end-user experience. Measure and improve the experience for our Pals.
  • Using data to validate your hypotheses and inform your decision making
  • Experiment with and recommend new technologies that simplify or improve our stack
  • Research new technologies and development methodologies to drive efficiency and improve customer experience.
  • Design products, services, and systems that are resilient to the iteration and change required by the needs of the business.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience building web and mobile technologies and working on large scale, high performance and fault tolerant systems
  • A lack of ego, driven by group outcome, not the individual outcome.
  • Committed to supporting a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining complex web applications with experience working on both the front and back end of a full stack system
  • Working with single-page architecture, front-end application frameworks
  • Using and maintaining JavaScript build and QA tooling (eg. yarn, webpack, Babel)
  • Interpreting mockups and translating them into polished and resolved UIs
  • Optimizing client performance through efficient dependency management and data access patterns
  • Experience with front-end testing tools like Jest, Cypress, Mocha, Puppeteer etc.
  • Exposure or experience writing Elixir or other functional programming languages (for example, Scala, Haskell, Clojure etc.).
  • Exposure or experience writing code in any other modern web development languages like Python, Ruby, Groovy, PHP, Javascript, Node, Express, React etc. etc.
  • Exposure or experience with AWS or any other cloud hosting platforms.
  • Exposure or experience with PostgreSQL or any other relational or non-relational databases
  • Thrive when faced with customer and product-focused challenges
  • You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.
  • Love to experiment and use data to drive decision-making.
  • Code quality is deeply important to you, and you can provide leadership in improving the quality of existing codebases
  • Have a knack for organization and breaking down large problems into smaller ones
  • You’re opinionated about what, and how, to build systems but empathetic to your colleagues
  • You’ve mentored engineers at a variety of levels throughout their career
  • You are a mindful, transparent and thoughtful communicator
